Technical Project Manager

The Berndt Group is seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager for a full-time position. The position will be split roughly as follows: 50% technical, 35% accounts, 15% new business development. Position is a dual report to the Vice President and Technical Director at The Berndt Group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

  • Assist Technical Director with numbers and language for proposals, quotes requested by CEO, Vice President or Project Managers. Technical PM to pull together information, Technical Director to review as needed.
  • Assist Technical Director and Director of Accounts with resource planning and allocation for technical projects. Technical PM to attend Accounts meetings and report back to Technical Director on needs/allocation of resources. Note: this will require the Technical PM to have a clear sense at all times of the status of technical projects and resources so that the Technical PM can accurately assign resources to technical projects.
  • Conduct routine check-ins with programmers so the Technical PM has a clear sense at all times of the status of technical projects and resources so that the Technical PM can accurately assign resources to technical projects.
  • Develop Technical Elements lists for projects; review with Project Managers.
  • Draft Functional Requirements on complex technical projects; assist project managers with functional requirements gathering on projects. Ability to discern clients’ needs and translate them into natural language requirements required. Technical Project Manager has oversight of all Functional Requirements on projects (reviewing them with Technical Director as needed).
  • Assist Technical Director and Director of Accounts with managing technical hours and profitability on projects so projects are delivered on time and in budget.
  • Work with Technical Director to develop an automated system for staff to better manage and track profitability on projects.
  • Work with Technical Director to identify new technologies that improve productivity, speed of project completion and project profitability.
  • Assist Technical Director with discrete system technology acquisition projects.
  • Assist with development on projects as needed.
  • Attend new business meetings/presentations as needed as a representative of the technical department.
  • Assist Technical Director and System Administrator (in conjunction with CEO and Vice President) in developing and implementing a 5-year plan for The Berndt Group that outlines the company’s technical direction.
  • Assist Technical Director in developing better standards for Q&A by programmers on projects.
  • Assist Technical Director in developing better documentation standards for all technical projects.
  • Assist Technical Director in identifying technical subcontractor resources as needed; oversee technical resources as requested by Technical Director.

ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT

  • Serve as a technical consultant on projects requiring a high-level of problem-solving input and technical deliverables. Assist CEO and other Project Managers on consulting projects with items such as research, deliverables, etc.
  • Act as a CMS – CRM consultant on projects.
  • Act as a resource for other Berndt Group Project Managers on (complex) technical projects: attend client meetings to assist project managers with requirements gathering as appropriate; provide hours quotes/estimates for projects and help define technical recommendations/scope, etc.

NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:

We are looking for someone who has proven experience concepting complex technical Web projects from inception to launch; successful candidates will have solid experience in strategic consulting and development of Functional Requirements for technical projects.

A successful Project Manager will have the following technical skills:

  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications, HTML editing, and writing/editing.
  • A strong knowledge of business, marketing, and technology fields.
  • Experience with Adobe, Macromedia and Visio software a plus.

Additional requirements:

  • Familiarity with developing Web-based applications, including ASP.net Web applications and classic ASP sites.
  • The role requires that applicant be able to demonstrate skills in understanding application design, database integration, and scalability concepts.
  • The candidate should be comfortable with working through structured, modular, and well-documented development processes, but also have enough flexibility to work in a small and busy company, working in teams on rapid development projects or managing these projects.
  • The candidate should also be proficient in current HTML and SQL as well as IIS administration and MS SQL Server administration.
  • Additionally, familiarity with CSS, JavaScript, Linux/UNIX, Apache, MySQL, Python, PHP, Perl, Oracle, and any major 3rd party CMS or CRM systems (including RedDot, Ektron and Rhythymx) is a definite plus.

Candidates must have at least 3 years of continuous industry experience in Web project management with a technical focus. Candidates should be able to demonstrate current capabilities that are comparable to our existing standards. The Berndt Group will not pay for relocation costs.
